Description

January 2015.
Acrylic over gesso over MDF wood.
30x37 centimeters (11.8" x 14.5")

View from a moon of the super-Earth I painted on the sky.
That super-Earth it's an extremely rare kind of planet: It has a chlorine atmosphere and chlorine-breathing nitrogen/boron-based lifeforms. It's inhabited by a sentient species which has developed technological civilization and spacefaring capability. Conscious of the uniqueness of their world, they have started changing the environment of the moons of their planet in order to make them habitable for their kind of life.
They'll be stuck and busy in their own star system for many thousands of years, but someday they'll sweep all over their galaxy, changing every planet or moon they found suitable.

This moon used to be Mars-like but now it's on the earliest stage of transformation. I has been raining for just a pair of decades, but it's already changing the landscape: The rocky outcrops are becoming tsingy-like due to the erosion from the acid rain. It has to be that way, since this lifeforms need an hydrosphere laced with hydrochloric acid.

I like to paint with opposite colors. My favorite combination it's orange and blue.
I rarely use greens, so this piece it's exceptional. In fact, I haven't done a green sky since May 2011.

Someone showed me this when we were streaming Slaughterhouse Five when the Planet Tralfamadore came up and said that their atmosphere is composed of cyanide. It's a nice painting befitting of old sci-fi classics
